Summer is here and it’s time to commit to spending more time outside. While it may seem hard to find the time with a busy schedule, there are a few simple things you can do to make sure you get some fresh air into your daily routine.
Put Outdoor Clothes on the Moment You Get Home From Work.
Don’t just reach for your PJs or loungewear the moment you hit your home during the week. Opt instead to putting on your outdoor clothes as soon as you get in the door. The act of getting ready to go outside will help motivate you to follow through.
Walk Around the Block
Use your lunch hour wisely by making a habit of stretching your legs during your lunch hour. Don’t just eat a salad at your desk! Get outside and stroll around the block. The change of scenery and the fresh air will not only invigorate you, it will help recharge your batteries for the second half of the day.
Join A Hiking/Running/Walking Group
Whether you’re in a small town or big city, chances are there’s a walking/running/hiking group in your area. Join up and head out. You’ll not only get to explore new places, and challenge yourself, you’ll meet new friends and have more fun. Not sure where to find one near you? Try asking at local hiking or camping supply stores and fitness outlets. Or jump on Facebook or other social media sites and search for groups or upcoming outings that may be near you.
Walk the Dog
Dogs love the outdoors, and they also crave the quality time they get with you. So the next time you have an impulse to simply open the back door for your dog, pop on a pair of runners instead and head down the street. You’ll both be happier and healthier for it.
Ditch the Car
Instead of driving around the corner to the grocery store, if you know you just need to pick up a few things, leave the car keys at home and walk on over. You can even try walking or cycling to and from work. If you take public transit to work, try to get off a stop or two from work and walk the rest of the way.
Pop in Some Headphones
If you are a music lover, download a new album and slip into some sneakers. Walk your neighborhood to a brand new soundtrack. You’ll be discovering new artists while helping to improve your own personal health and wellness.
